My Legacy

My experience and knowledge go beyond just the planting or placement of a plant. As an Advanced Master Gardener, with over 26 years in just making grave blankets, I take pride; give love and passion into each site. Losing three daughters, my mother, father and a husband, I know the pain is indescribable and it feels like a piece of you goes with each Loved One. As a mother, losing a child was the worst nightmare I could ever have. One daughter, Rachael, was a patient at All Children’s Hospital. My life became a roller coaster but everyday became a ray of sunshine, a ray of hope. Rachael had open heart surgery and she had made such progress and she was to be coming out of ICU the next morning. Then the storm came, one of the worst nightmares of my life, a phone call. Rachael had taken a turn for the worse. Rachael died from Cardiac Arrest. What a fighter, what an Angel… She is joined by 2 other sisters, a Grandma and Grandpa’s. Yes, the pain and suffering I have endured as a parent, as a child and as a wife is with me everyday and with their memories I know that no one can take those away.

My Daughter Rachael

When my daughter Rachael died 24 yrs ago, my motherly instincts were overpowering. She died on Oct.31. When the snow started falling, my first thought was that she was going to get cold. I know it is silly, but I just wanted to continue to protect her.

Through a friend I learned about grave blankets. I immediately had one made. I've been making them every year since. It was really my faith in God that got me through the pain. I know she is with God and he is keeping her safe, but making her a blanket began a healing process for me. And the healing has continued through the deaths of a second daughter, my late husband, my father and others.

What lead me to become a Master Gardener?

Since the age of five, I was my fathers little helper in the garden.  Cleaning up the vegetables and watching him turn over the soil with a shovel I was soon fascinated by watching plants grow.

GARDENING TIPS

Hanging baskets should never be allowed to dry out!  Water thoroughly.  If the basket dries out, the soil could shrink, then the water just runs through, leaving you thinking it’s watered.
