Oak Hill Cemetery rules on grave decorations:
- You can place any decoration you would like on a grave.
- On April 1st. and October 1st of each year, we clean off everything placed on the graves. This process takes approximately 2 weeks. After that, you are welcome to replace what you wish on the grave.

- No person shall plant, trim and/or remove any tree, shrub or perennial plant without the approval of the township.
- No person shall convert any part of their grave space or lot to a flowerbed.
- Only two (2) large urns allowed on each family plot.
- All large urns not filled for two consecutive years will be removed.
- All plastic flowers and wreaths will be removed when their condition shows deterioration or weather damage.
- No animals shall be buried in the Bedford Cemetery.
- Cemetery is considered closed between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Any plot owner shall have the right to top dress, fertilize, and seed the family plot, but shall not excavate any soil without permission.
- All glass containers or wires considered hazardous to mower will be removed.
- No planting of trees, shrubs and rose bushes without approval of the township.
- All flowers and decorations shall be removed April 1 to April 30 and October 1 to October 30 of each year for cleaning purposes.
- We do allow grave blankets.

Open from Dawn till Dusk.Cemetery Care:
- Please do not throw rubbish or debris on a walk or driveway or on any part of the cemetery grounds.
- Do not pick or mutilate any flowers, either wild or domestic, or disturb any tree, shrub, or other plant material.
- The Township shall not be financially responsible for any damage to lots and structures or objects thereon, or flowers or articles removed from any lot or grave.
- All improvements to lots shall be done under the direction and with the approval of the Sexton. No tree or shrub shall be removed or pruned except under the direction and with the consent of the Sexton. The planting of flowers, perennials and shrubs over the lot will not be permitted.
- The Township shall provide the cutting and trimming of grass at reasonable intervals and such other care as is necessary to maintain uniformity in the appearance of the cemetery.
- Copings, fences, curbs, hedges, structures of wood or other equally perishable material are prohibited. Those structures or enclosures established on any lot previous to the adoption of these regulations which have, in the judgment of the cemetery management, become unsightly by reason of neglect or age shall be removed.
- No. elevated mounds shall be built over graves and no lot shall be filled above the grade established by the management.
- With the exception of the period from May 23 to June 6 each year, there shall be no more than two (2) urns per lot and no more than one(1) , 8 inch or larger potted plant, bouquet or wreath per lot. Anything in excess will be removed by the cemetery management. Flowers that have become unsightly will be removed. Glass containers will not be permitted.
- Artificial flowers will be allowed subject to #8. Arrangements shall be securely fastened in containers so they can not be pulled out.
- Rubbish, refuse and unused containers shall not be left on lots.
- We do allow Grave Blankets and wreaths.

Rules and Regulations:
- No children will be permitted unless accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for their conduct.
- General care of the cemetery is provided by the Township, includes keeping the grass cropped, trimming and keeping the roads in good condition.
- Cutting or otherwise disturbing the turf by a private individual is not permitted, and if done the re seeding or resodding will be done at the expense of the lot owner.
- The Township will not be responsible for loss of or damage to any article left upon any lot or grave or in any part of the cemetery.
- Lot owners must keep in good repair any structure or object which may be placed on the lot by their authority. failure to do so will compel the township to have the same removed or repaired at the expense of the lot owner.
- Lot owners are responsible for repairing their individual stones. If a stone becomes chipped or broken, the Cemetery Sexton will do whatever is reasonably possible to keep the stone pieces together until the owner can be contacted.
- As soon as flowers, wreaths, emblems, etc., used at funerals, or placed upon graves at other times, become unsightly and faded, they will be removed and no responsibility for their protection or maintenance will be assumed.
- The decoration of lots or graves with boxes, toys, balloons, shells, images, crosses, wire screens, arbors, trellises, tripods, and objects of similar description is prohibited as being inconsistent with modern usage and the desired appearance of the grounds.
- Glass jars or tin cans placed on graves as flower holders is strictly prohibited.
- No planting of trees, bushes or shrubs will be permitted except with permission from the Convis Township Board.
- Potted plants are welcome from May 15th to September 15th. All potted plants should be removed by September 15th.
- Grave blankets may be used from November 15th to March 15th of each year.
- Small urns are allowed and when used, should serve to decorate the complete plot. Large, pedestal type urns require a cement foundation. all urns must be emptied by September 15th, just as the potted plants are removed.
- No lot or grave shall be defined by a fence, railing, coping, hedge or enclosure of any description.
- All persons are prohibited from cutting or picking flowers, and from trimming, planting or removing, plants, trees, shrubs and flowers.

Rules:- Summer decorations placed after May 10th and removed by October 1st.
- Winter decorations placed after November 10th and removed by March 25th.
- All flowers must be in some sort of vase or container and placed on the side of gravestones.
- No flowers are allowed to be planted in the ground.
- All flowers and decorations are to be placed on the side of the gravestone.
- Nothing is allowed to be placed in the front of the gravestones.

- All plantings of bushes and trees must be done so in writing to the Township Board for approval.
- Flowers can be placed in urns and perennial flowers that don't spread can also be placed at the edge of the maker foundation within reason.
- In the cemetery you might see a bench, or even a small fence around a particular space. Those were placed before the latest action of the Township Board.
- The cemetery is "stripped" of old flowers and grave blankets in October and in April. If people want to have their items to use another time they need to mark their calendars to get out to the cemetery and pull them off

Houston, Lyon Lake and Lutheran Cemeteries
Decorations:- Not more than one urn shall be permitted per lot. It is the lot owners responsibility (except endowed urns) to plant and maintain the urn. Urns not filled by July 1st. shall be removed by the Cemetery workers.
- In addition to an urn there shall be not more than one grave decoration, natural or artificial, per grave space. Anything in excess shall be removed the cemetery worker with approval of the Township Board.
- From May 23 to June 6th more than one decoration is permitted.
- Decorations must be placed in a hanging basket, flush container or a moveable, non breakable container.
- Winter grave decorations are permitted beginning October 31 through March 15th. Decoration not removed by March 16, shall be considered abandoned and will be disposed of by the Cemetery worker.
- Grave Blankets are allowed.
- Artificial flowers are allowed.
- Copings, fences, curbs, hedges, mounds, structures of wood or equally perishable material are prohibited. Any of the aforementioned or structures or enclosures established on any lot prior to the addition of these amended Rules.
- Planting of trees, shrubs, bushes, plants or any other growth is prohibited in Houston Cemetery.

Congregational, Mather, Morgan and West Leroy Cemeteries
Congregational Cemetery is located on H Drive So. across from the Congregational Church in Sections 28 and 29 of Leroy Township.
Mather Cemetery is located on5 Mile Rd. in Section 35 of Leroy Township.
Morgan Cemetery is located on Capital Ave. S.W., south of Battle Creek in Section 2 of Leroy Township
West Leroy Cemetery is located on C Drive So. near the corner of 1/2 mile road in Section 7 of Leroy Township.
The main gate, where applicable, shall be open from sunrise to sunset each day.Artificial decorations:
- One pot of plants, less than eight "8" inches in diameter may be placed at the head of each grave. An exceptions to this regulation is made for one year after burial. During this time more than one pot shall be permitted.
- Lot holder is responsible for the care of plants, urns, vases, pots, etc. Pots of dead plants will be removed as they detract from the appearance of the Cemetery.
- All winter artificial wreaths and sprays will be removed by May 1st.
- All summer artificial wreaths and sprays will be removed by October 1st.
- Any artificial decoration that detracts from the neat and orderly appearance of the Cemetery may be removed by the Sexton.
- In case of a burial, the same exception shall be made for cut flowers and potted plants, as for artificial wreaths and sprays.
- Plantings that do not accord with this ordinance or that have become unsightly, or that interfere with the rights of other lot owners, or make the care of the cemetery difficult and expensive, or that detract from the landscaping plan of the cemetery may be removed by order of the Supervisor of the Cemetery.
- No planting of trees or shrubbery on Cemetery lots are permitted.

Ground Maintenance:- No flowers, shrubs, trees, or vegetation of any type shall be planted without the approval of the Cemetery Sexton, or the Township Clerk. The Township or the Cemetery Sexton may remove any of the foregoing items planted without such approval.
- The Township Board reserves the right to remove or trim any tree, plant or shrub located within the cemetery in the interest of maintaining proper appearance and the use of the cemetery.
- The Cemetery Sexton shall have the right and authority to remove and dispose of any and all growth, emblems, displays or containers therefore that through decay, deterioration, damage, or otherwise become unsightly, a source of litter or maintenance problem. The Township Clerk or the Cemetery Sexton may remove any of the forgoing items planted without such approval.
- All refuse of any kind or nature including, among others, dried flowers, wreaths, papers, and flower containers must be removed or deposited in containers located within the cemetery.

Newton Cemetery
As per ordinance:
- We do allow grave blankets.
- We do allow artificial flowers.
- On April 1st of each year all artificial items must be removed
- No item over 1 year old allowed.
- Only dwarf plants can be planted.
- If flowers (real or artificial) become untidy, they will be removed by the Sexton.
- We place American Flags on all Veterans graves, from May 15th to Nov. 15th each year.

- We allow two (2) items only to a grave.
- Items such as artificial flowers, plants, cut flowers are allowed from Easter until November 1st.
- No glass vases or any container that is breakable, that will cause injury.
- No planting of flowers, shrubs , trees on graves.
- One Shepard hook is allowed per grave.
- Solar lights are allowed as long as their not in the way of mowers and not on the grave itself.
- Trash containers are provided, their fore please use to put outdated flowers and trash into.
- No pets are allowed.
- Urns need to be emptied by November 1st.

Riverside, Windfall Cemetery
Cemetery Hours: Riverside Cemetery will be open to the general public during daylight hours or at the discretion of the Township Board.
Ground Maintenance:
- Cleanup of Riverside Cemetery will be April 1st.
- You may call the Township office at 517-767-3366 if you need help removing your decorations.
- Please be advised that fall clean- up begins October 9th. Please remove any or all decorations that you wish to keep before clean-up begins as they will be removed after that date by our authorized agent.
- You may start putting winter decorations back on November 15th.
- No grading, leveling, or excavating upon a burial space shall be allowed without the permission of the Township Board.
- No flowers, shrubs, trees, or vegetation of any type shall be planted without the approval of the Township Board. Any of the foregoing items planted without such approval may be removed by the Township.
- The Township Board reserves the right to remove or trim any tree, plant, or shrub located within the cemetery in the interest of maintaining proper appearance and the use of the cemetery in the interest of maintaining proper appearance and the use of the cemetery.
- Mounds which hinder the free use of a lawn mower or other gardening apparatus are prohibited.
- The person under contract with the Township to maintain the cemetery shall have the right and authority to remove and dispose of any and all growth, emblems, displays, or containers therefore that though decay, deteriorations, damage, or otherwise become unsightly, a source of litter, or a maintenance problem.
- Surfaces other than earth or sod are prohibited.
- All refuse of any kind or nature including, among others, dried flowers, wreaths, papers, and flower containers must be removed or deposited in containers located with the cemetery.
- All decorations must be kept neat and orderly and in line with the stone.
- Lots shall be used for no other purpose than human burial.
- All lots shall be sold with the provision for perpetual care.
- Summer decorations are to be cleared prior to October 1st.
- Winter decorations are to be cleared prior to April 1st.

GARDENING TIPS
Hanging baskets should never be allowed to dry out! Water thoroughly. If the basket dries out, the soil could shrink, then the water just runs through, leaving you thinking it’s watered.
